This warming hot chocolate I've been making lately - she's sweet, she's rich, and thanks to the tahini, she's silky smooth and leaves you feeling truly satisfied. This takes all of 5 minutes to whip up, making it the perfect mid-afternoon or evening beverage.

Did you know that tahini is a paste made from ground sesame seeds, and is a great source of plant-based calcium? Calcium is necessary for optimal bone, teeth and muscle health. Delicious, nourishing, and so satisfying. What a divine combo.

A round ceramic mug is placed on a mustard coloured tea towel. The mug contains a thick hot chocolate. In the background is a chopping board with two pieces of dark mint chocolate, and the chocolate wrapper.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup plant-based milk (my favourite is oat)

  • 1 tablespoon unhulled tahini

  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

  • Dash of pure vanilla extract

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • 2 squares of vegan chocolate (I used Pana Organic mint)

METHOD

  1. Combine the plant-based milk and tahini in a small saucepan over low-medium heat. Stir for a few minutes until the tahini has melted and combined with the milk. The milk should be warm enough to melt the tahini but not so hot that it begins to boil.

1 cup plant-based milk (my favourite is oat)

    1 tablespoon unhulled tahini

  2. Stir in the cacao, maple syrup, vanilla extract and sea salt. Once fully combined, add in the chocolate. Stir gently until mixed through evenly. Pour the liquid into your favourite mug.

    1 tablespoon cacao powder

    1 tablespoon maple syrup

    Dash of pure vanilla extract

    Pinch of sea salt

    2 squares of vegan chocolate

  3. Allow the hot chocolate to cool down slightly (or if you like it hot, enjoy straight away!), and enjoy.
