Hello and welcome!

Mikaela is sitting at an outdoor table of a Paris cafe. She is wearing a black shirt and cream long-sleeve shirt over the top. She is holding a vegan macaroon in her right hand and is looking down and smiling.

My name is Mikaela Young, a self-proclaimed foodie from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, and I am passionate about plant-based eating. I am a qualified dietitian and nutritionist, and I use the nutrition knowledge harnessed from this degree to help shape the food that I create. These dishes have been thoughtfully constructed to deliver nourishment and flavour with every bite.

There are many benefits associated with eating more plant-based meals. Our diets can be enriched nutritionally and our footprint on the planet can be lighter. I personally have been vegan for many years now (almost 10!) but I am not trying to convert everybody. I am a firm believer that most people would enjoy eating more plant-based meals if they knew how to make plants taste good. I want to spark the joy of home cooking with you, and encourage you to see plants in a new light.

When I’m not in the kitchen, I am working towards my PhD. My research looks at local Australian seaweed varieties and explores how we can encourage more Australians to eat more of them, due to their many nutritional and environmental benefits. I am also a health and nutrition writer for local health food stores.

So, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
